Artist Statement

I enjoy creating in multimedia, though I lean toward oil, pen and ink or alcohol inks. My ideas bloom from experiences in daily life with nature at the center of much of my work. Inspiration can come from vacationing, a vibrant flower seen in the grocery store or red brake lights in a line of traffic.
My process starts with an image, whether in a photo or in my mind. I create a rough sketch, rendering several thumbnails in search for an expressive composition. Quite a bit of my vacation art is done in pen and ink while my more serious studio art is generally painted in oil.

Artist Biography

Katherine Bampfield is a blend of sugarcane meets street. Moving all over the United States for her father’s military career strongly influenced her childhood experience. This left her to remake herself each time she landed in a new place.

Her creativity was born to fit in and/or stand out. She learned not to be afraid to speak her mind, a trait that transfers to her artwork. Her influences are Van Gogh, Dali, Matisse, and Seurat with her styling influenced by pointillism, surrealism and impressionism.

Katherine prefers lines over soft blending, and vibrant colors over muted ones. Live moments are the spark that jump-starts her creative focus.

A little history about the artist…

I grew up around creative people. My mom was a wiz with fabric, food and interior design. My dad had the gift of being able to string words together into expressive poetry. So, I was always doing something artistic, whether it was musical, visual or theatrical.

After I married and had kids that rekindled my love for all things creative. As life moved into the 2000s, home studios became a thing whether it was music, websites, or writing. I stayed creative by volunteering and instructing an art program in my childrens grade school. I also taught myself how to create basic websites. I realized then I enjoyed putting together pieces of a project to create the whole picture. That lead me to start writing song lyrics with a country songwriter, Jim Femino. He taught me about the in-depth creative process. His words and mentoring were invaluable to my creative journey. He’s no longer with us, but I can still hear his voice when I write.

Check out my blog post from October 1, 2021 where I realized I was “All In” as an artist.
