Katherine Bampfield is where sugarcane meets street. Growing up, she moved across the United States with her father’s military career, learning early how to adapt, observe, and remake herself in new places.

That experience shaped both her voice and her work. Influenced by Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Georges Seurat, Katherine’s art leans into strong lines, bold color, and honest expression.

Real, lived moments are what spark her focus and guide what she creates.

A little history about the artist…

Creativity has always been part of my world. My mom had a natural eye for fabric, food, and interior design, and my dad had a gift for words, often expressed through poetry. Because of that, I was always making something, musical, visual, or theatrical.

After I married and had children, that creative pull returned. In the early 2000s, I stayed connected by teaching an art program at my children’s grade school and learning how to build simple websites. That was when I realized how much I loved bringing separate pieces together to create a whole.

That curiosity led me to writing song lyrics alongside country songwriter Jim Femino. He taught me the depth of the creative process, and his mentoring shaped how I approach making art. Though he is no longer with us, his voice still finds its way into my writing.

Today, I live in Sussex County, Delaware, once again shaping my life around a slower, coastal rhythm. Here, I create art that makes space for feeling and reminds you it is okay to feel exactly where you are.
